Τρία ελληνικά ερευνητικά κέντρα στα 500 κορυφαία παγκοσμίως

Την πρώτη θέση στον κόσμο καταλαμβάνει το Εθνικό Ίδρυμα Υγείας των ΗΠΑ.
Τρία ερευνητικά κέντρα της χώρας μας βρίσκονται στα 500 πρώτα του κόσμου σύμφωνα με την κατάταξη Ranking Web of Research Centers του ισπανικού κέντρου επιστημονικών ερευνών CSIC.

Στην πρώτη θέση μεταξύ των ερευνητικών κέντρων της Ελλάδας και στη 233 θέση παγκόσμια κατατάσσεται το Ίδρυμα Τεχνολογίας και Έρευνας (ΙΤΕ) και ακολουθεί το Εθνικό Κέντρο Έρευνας και Τεχνολογικής Ανάπτυξης (ΕΚΕΤΑ), 322η θέση στον κόσμο. Στα 500 πρώτα κέντρα εντάσσεται και το Ινστιτούτο Τεχνολογίας Υπολογιστών και Εκδόσεων «Διόφαντος (ΙΤΥΕ).

Στην έκδοση του Ιανουαρίου κατατάσσονται περίπου 8.000 ερευνητικά κέντρα με την Ευρώπη να κυριαρχεί με 4.111 να έχουν την έδρα τους σε χώρες της Ευρώπης. Στα πρώτα δέκα ερευνητικά κέντρα κυριαρχούν οι ΗΠΑ με έξι κέντρα, με δύο εκπροσωπείται η Ιαπωνία και από ένα η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση και η Γαλλία.

Την πρώτη θέση στον κόσμο καταλαμβάνει το Εθνικό Ίδρυμα Υγείας των ΗΠΑ (National Institutes of Health-NIH) ενώ δεύτερη είναι η Εθνική Υπηρεσία Αεροναυτικής και Διαστήματος γνωστή ως NASA. Τρίτο είναι άλλο ένα ερευνητικό κέντρο των ΗΠΑ η Αμερικανική Εθνική Υπηρεσία Ωκεανών και Ατμόσφαιρας (ΝΟΑΑ). Το CERN βρίσκεται στην 5η θέση.

Η μεθοδολογία της έρευνας, εξετάζει διάφορα κριτήρια, όπως την προβολή (ή αλλιώς visibility) και τις ιδιότητες του περιεχομένου (μέγεθος, μορφές αρχείων, κάλυψη από το Google Scholar). Στόχος της κατάταξης είναι να πείσει τους ακαδημαϊκούς και τους πολιτικούς για τη σημασία της δημοσίευσης στο διαδίκτυο όχι μόνο για τη διάδοση της ακαδημαϊκής γνώσης αλλά και για τη μέτρηση των επιστημονικών δραστηριοτήτων.
